“Ground Level” is the new release from the Kansas City band OJT.
OJT stands for Organ Jazz Trio, and organist Ken Lovern and guitarist Brian Baggett have been making their unique style of music together in this trio for over 20 years. Drummer Kenny Watson Jr. joined the group a couple of years ago and has helped the band coalesce around a new, even groovier sound.
OJT stands for On the Job Training, and the group gets plenty of this playing their steady, four night a week gig at Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City. Their live shows are regularly featured on Kansas Public Radio’s program “Live at Green Lady Lounge.”
OJT stands for Original Jazz Tonight. The trio plays all original compositions at Green Lady Lounge, and all of the tunes on this recording are composed by the members of the band.
The release title “Ground Level” refers to where things begin . . . on the ground level. Ground level is also the preferred floor for a gig involving a 400 pound Hammond Organ. The original compositions on this release all came to life with OJT performing them on the ground level of Green Lady Lounge.
Available on all streaming platforms September 6, 2024.
